Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary health care that emphasizes prevention and the self-healing process through the use of natural therapies. Naturopathic diagnosis focuses on identifying the underlying causes of disease, using thorough intake and review of health concerns, modern diagnostic tools and physical exam. Naturopathic treatment modalities used in our practice are comprehensive laboratory assessment, acupuncture, clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, detoxification and mindset. The practice and use of these modalities in naturopathic medicine integrates a scientific approach to healing that uses both conventional diagnostic tools, and also follows laws of nature.
Nutraceuticals and herbs are used in conjunction with other therapies to promote health. Using traditional remedies combined with recent clinical advances in plant-based medicine, we can craft a plan to create better health.
Naturopathic Physicians
Naturopathic physicians are primary care practitioners trained as experts in natural medicine. They base their practice on the founding principles of naturopathic medicine, which are as follows:
1. First Do No Harm
One of the main differences between conventional and naturopathic medicine is that NDs use noninvasive therapies with few side effects in order to avoid unnecessary harm to the patient’s body.
2. Identify and Treat the Cause
Naturopathic doctors believe in the importance of treating the cause of illness, rather than just suppressing symptoms or focusing only on the disease itself.
3. Support the Healing Power of Nature
Naturopathic medicine recognizes the body’s inherent ability to heal itself when it is given proper guidance and support. Naturopathic physicians encourage the healing process by identifying and removing any obstacles to cure that may be present.
4. Treat the Whole Person
Naturopathic doctors take all aspects of the individual into account when treating their patients, including physical, emotional, mental, environmental and genetic.
5. Emphasize the Prevention of Disease
In addition to addressing acute and chronic illnesses, naturopathic doctors also strive to promote wellness by identifying risk factors that could lead to future health problems.
6. Educate Patients About Self-Responsibility For Health
Patient education is the cornerstone of naturopathic care. Naturopathic physicians teach their patients how to make conscious lifestyle choices, giving them the confidence they need to reach and maintain an optimal state of health.
Acupuncture is an ancient form of healthcare that originated in China at least 2,500 years ago. It has been practiced throughout the Asian world for many centuries. Acupuncture has been accepted into the Western mainstream culture since the 1970’s and is currently soaring in popularity throughout many parts of the Western hemisphere. Through the use of extremely fine needles, acupuncture works by manipulating the flow of Qi in the body, which is the life force or energy force that is present in all living things.
Our trained practitioners utilize multiple services to treat the entire body affected by chronic and acute diseases, rather than managing or suppressing them. We work with you, one on one to not only have a healthy body but a healthy mind.
